The dataset contains historical operating indicators for commercial banks in Mexico, including data on ATMs, credit card contracts, mobile banking contracts, POS terminals, branches, outsourced employees, and transactions in ATMs and POS terminals. It is presented at a municipal level by institution, covering data from 2008 to 2025.

Official Mexican data sources point to close to:

  • 65,039 ATMs in the country.
  • 11,829 banking branches.
  • 754 thousand point of sale terminals.
  • 141,232 thousand debit card contracts.
  • 37,499 thousand credit card contracts.

Furthermore, official data sources point to close to 568 million transactions across ATM over the past 3 months (as of enero 2025) - a figure -0.4% lower than the previous year; and more than 1,050 million transactions in point of sale terminals in the country (also over the past 3 months).

Despite mobile point of sale terminals being more popular than ever, banking POS terminals continue to play a crucial role in the Mexican economy, with more than 1,402,588 businesses using them across the Mexican territory.
